A Gift of Grace
“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children
of God, and if children, then heirs-heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ,
if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.” Romans 8:16-17
We are granted to suffer. The Greek verb translated
“granted” is from the noun for grace. The believers’ suffering is a gift of
grace that brings power and eternal reward.
The proof of our ultimate glory is that we suffer whether it
comes in the form of mockery, ridicule, or physical persecution on behalf of
the Lord. That is why the history of the church is filled with martyrs. Jesus
Christ suffered immensely while on this earth. He was falsely accused
abandoned, rejected, misunderstood, persecuted, betrayed, beaten, imprisoned,
mocked, tortured, and killed. Will we not suffer also?
Thought for the Day: As a follower of
Christ, not only do we partake in His glory, But we also partake
in His sufferings.
