“They said, ‘Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce,
and to dismiss her,’ and Jesus answered and said to them,
‘Because of the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.’”
Mark 10:4-5

Make no mistake, God hates divorce. In Mark’s gospel, the Pharisees tested Jesus by asking Him if it was lawful for a man to divorce his wife. Notice that Jesus quoted from the book of Genesis. Since the beginning of time, God’s design has been for one man and one woman to unite in marriage until death. Your commitment to your wife is for life, not ten, fifteen, or twenty years.

The reason people were divorcing in the Old Testament is the same reason today – hardness of heart. A hard heart leads to a hard life – you become bitter, unforgiving, and selfish. If you want to be in God’s perfect will and have Him bless your marriage, then you as the husband need to be submitted to Jesus Christ completely.
