Lying: Reaping the Consequences

“He who has a deceitful heart finds no good,
and he who has a perverse tongue falls into evil.”

Proverbs 17:20

I remember growing up and hearing the story about the boy who cried wolf. He cried wolf so many times, that when there really was a wolf, no one believed him. One of the most common consequences of lying is the loss of integrity and trustworthiness. This is absolutely devastating in marriage relationships. When a spouse has practiced a lifestyle of deception and lying, the other partner loses all ability to trust and respect the spouse. How are they supposed to believe a person that continually lies?

Marriage is based on trust and honesty, and when that has been broken, it is very difficult to repair. However, if a person repents, things can be mended, but it will take quite a bit of time. Before I was a believer, I was h horrible liar. After I came to know Christ, it took my wife over a year to get to a point to start trusting me again.

Thought for the Day:
Besides the loss of integrity and trustworthiness,
Liars experience broken relationships.
