Learn Our Lessons
from History
“…and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat
on the house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” Matthew 7:27
In his book, the decline and fall of the Roman
Empire, Edward Gibbon discussed five reasons for the fall of that
empire:
1) The rapid increase of divorce; the undermining of the
dignity and sanctity of the home, which is the basis of human society.
2) Higher and higher taxes and the spending of public moneys
for free bread and circuses for the people.
3) The mad craze for pleasure, sports every year becoming
more exciting and more brutal.
4) Building of gigantic armaments, when the real enemy was
within the decadence of the people.
5) The decay of religion, faith feeding into more formalism;
loosing touch with life and becoming impotent to guide the people.
Many of these same things are evident in the United States
today.
Thought for the Day: No Civilization lasts
that rejects God.
