There are people who have a false impression of God. They picture Him as a hard tyrant who is just waiting for them to foul up so He can beat them over the head. Or, they imagine that He gets His kicks out of human beings suffer. However, the Bible says the opposite. The character of God is one of love, mercy, and compassion. Yes, He is also a god of judgment for those who refuse to accept His free gift of salvation. However, the Lord bends over backwards to reach people and bring them into His saving grace.
