Receiving Criticism
“Faithful are the wounds of a friend,
But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.”
Proverbs 27:6
There are many critical people in the world. As Christians,
what should our attitude be towards receiving criticism? Abraham Lincoln talked
about criticism in a conversation at the White House, reported by Francis B.
Carpenter:
“If I were to read, much less to answer, all the attacks
made on me, this shop might as well be closed for any other business. I do the
very best I know how – the very best I can; and I intend to keep doing so until
the end. If the end brings me out all right, what is said against me won’t
amount to anything. If the end brings me out wrong, ten angels swearing I was
right would make no difference.”
Thought for the Day: “If what they are
saying about you is true, mend your ways. If it isn’t true,
forget it, and go on and serve the Lord.”
-- H. A. Ironside
