BIBLE STUDY #6
WHO DO WE BELIEVE IN? In this lesson we would like to look into the Gospel of John to get a clearer picture of Jesus. That way we can believe in Him and rely upon Him better. Your faith in Jesus will grow as you see what the Bible says about Him.
1. At the end of the Gospel, John says that he wrote these things so that we can believe in Jesus. What result will this bring to us? John 20:31
In the first chapter of John, he refers to Jesus as "the Word" (The expression of God). We know that this refers to Jesus because it says in verse 14, "the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us" (Jesus)
2. Look over verses one through five of chapter one. Has the Word (Jesus) been around from the beginning?
Is the Word (Jesus) God?
Did the Word (Jesus) create all things?
Is there life in the Word (Jesus)?
3. There was a man sent by God to tell about Jesus. That man was John the Baptist. Who did John the Baptist say that Jesus was? John 1:29
4. In John 5:18 it says that the Jewish Leaders wanted to kill Jesus because He broke their Sabbath rules. But they were also angry because He called God His Father and made Himself out to be something. What does this verse say that Jesus made Himself out to be?
We have seen that John refers to Jesus as God and that Jesus referred to Himself as God. Therefore, since Jesus is God, when we come to Jesus we are coming to God. Let's look at some of the things that Jesus said about Himself so that we can better appreciate what it means to come to Him.
5. When we have a hunger and thirst inside that regular food and water cannot satisfy, what is it that Jesus said about Himself that makes us want to come to Him? John 6:35
6. When we come to Jesus, will he ever cast us out? John 6:37
7. If we find ourselves in the dark and we can't see how to live, what did Jesus say that will help us trust in Him? John 8:12
8. At times we are like helpless lost sheep. What is Jesus to us at those times? John 10:9
What benefits will we receive by coming to Him? John 10:9,10
9. Who is the good shepherd that guides and protects us? John 10:11
What has He done for us? John 10:11
10. If we are facing death, what are two things that Jesus called Himself that will give us hope? John 11:25
I Am
AND
If we believe in Him, What will happen even though our body dies? John 11:25,26
11. In John 14:6 we see three more things that Jesus says about Himself to help us believe in Him. When people say that there are many ways to God, we should remember that Jesus is:
If we are confused and not sure about what is true, we should keep in mind that Jesus is:
In case we feel that life really isn't worth it, then we should come to Jesus because He is:
12. Jesus said "I am the vine and you are the branches." (John 15:5) Just as the branches get their life from the vine, So we get our life from Jesus. How much good fruit can our lives produce apart from Jesus? John 15:5
