A Message Falling on Deaf Ears
And they listened to him until this word, and then they raised their voices and said, “Away with such a fellow from the earth, for he is not fit to live!” Then, as they cried out and tore off their clothes and threw dust into the air....Acts 22:22-23
The Jews had been listening to Paul’s testimony in silence until he reached the point of mentioning the Gentiles. The moment he referred to being sent to them, they immediately raised their voices and began shouting. The riotous behavior continued. They wanted him killed.
If you are not familiar with Jewish culture, you will notice that they are a very emotional people. They make such a spectacle when they are upset––big time. On this occasion, even in front of Romans, the Jews began to tear their clothing...
