Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.
Proverbs 27:1
As
we look at life, we often are reminded of how precious the days on this earth
really are, and how we must be prepared for eternity. This past weekend, the world was impacted by the tragic loss
of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and seven others that were involved in a
helicopter crash here in Southern California. As more information emerged, this
route was a common flight pattern they would take to the Mamba Sports Academy facility for
scheduled basketball games. Little did they know this flight would be their last trip
here on earth.
As we reflect on this Scripture, that Solomon penned thousands of years ago, it still rings true. There are so many plans we make every day but often do not take into consideration today may be our last. With this being true what kind of life should we be living today? I believe the most important thing is to know Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior; that is the only way to salvation and eternal life. I also believe that we must live a life led by the Spirit of God which means we should be loving, compassionate, forgiving, and joyful. We should exercise these gifts that the Lord has given us by the power of the Holy Spirit. As so often is the case, one day can change the direction of our lives forever. We can lose loved ones suddenly, we can get bad news from the doctor, or face many other challenges. We would be wise to hear the words of Solomon, never assume tomorrow is guaranteed, but live today like it is your last day on earth. Live like Christ, forgive like Christ and love like Christ.
